Price: $5 Suggested Donation at the Door

One of the greatest joys that I get to experience in life is to witness my friends being able to continue their art as we all grow into the fullness of who we are created to be.  I am so lucky to get to know Jim Holt in my undergrad days, and now I get to take part in his project.  He was always very creative and amazing performer, and I am so honored to play for this project.  There are also so many creative/talented musicians participating in the project, and I am so excited to play with them!  I can hardly wait!!!

Here is the little blurb from the facebook event page:

Seattle-based composer and On the Boards Ambassador James Holt is presenting a live performance of meditative works for large and small ensembles. “Prelude” is a 30-minute wash of harmonic sound, performed live by more than 20 local musicians, spread throughout the On the Boards lounge space. An untitled work for a smaller ensemble of piano, percussion and pizzicato strings will begin immediately after, enveloping the audience in a floating, stable yet unresolved musical experience.

Together with my trusted colleague, Kendra McLean, I will take part in the international project:  Bach in the Subway Day 2015.  Here is what the organizers say about the day:

On J.S. Bach's 330th birthday, musicians around the world will unite to perform Bach for free in subways and public spaces, throughout the day and night, to celebrate our art and to sow the seeds for future generations of classical music lovers.

As I imagine how this day might unfold, I can't stop smiling.  Bach can be heard everywhere in the city!  What an amazing day this is going to be!  I am so happy and excited to take part in an amazing global project, and I hope many of my international colleague will join in.  In addition, it is so much fun to be playing with Kendra again.  We will enjoy choosing the repertoire, rehearsing, and performing.  It's been very long since we last played together!

Messiah - 7pm
1328 So. 84th St
Tacoma, WA 98444
USA
253-535-5803
Price: Free will offerings will be accepted

It has become a Christmas tradition to play the Messiah with the Tacoma First Baptist Church every year.  Some of the numbers are sung in Korean, but not ever choir member speaks Korean!  Nonetheless, they always sound absolutely gorgeous!  Playing pieces involving full-orchestra with choir is always fun since I love being "washed in the sound of the choir!" I enjoy and look forward to this every year, and I hope you can join me in Tacoma!!

Seattle, WA 98119
USA
Price: $25/general, $20/senior, $10/Students, Youth 17 and under/free

Playing in the percussion section for Schwantner's amazing piece, "New Mornings for the World," offers the opportunity to perform a powerful piece by a living composer.  The piece is really inspiring, and I hope you will enjoy the piece, too!

Here is a little blurb about the piece from the orchestra's website:

"With the help of a narrator, Joseph Schwantner draws from Martin Luther King’s most influential speeches about racial inequality and the fight for justice and freedom for all. New Morning for the World is a powerful reminder that the battles King fought are far from over, and its massive orchestral journey illustrates that human progress involves many painful confrontations and resolutions, rather than a single, momentous victory."

Songs of Hope just released a CD, "Homeward," to support the "Tenohira ni Taiyo no Ie," the family retreat facility in Miyagi, Japan.

Tenohira ni Taiyo no Ie was established for the children of Fukushima and their parents as a retreat facility where children can run and play outside without the fear of radiation.  Songs of Hope's CD, "Homeward," is a collection of pieces by (mostly) Japanese composers performed by 11 of the Songs of Hope Artists.
